Laser Cutting Parts: Nozzle Types and Uses

Cincinnati Lasers are fiber laser systems that give high speed cutting on thin materials at low operating costs. This reduces the time and cost for the operators as it makes the cutting process fast and accurate. As it is a machine, there are chances that it will need some repairing after some time. Some companies provide spare parts for such laser machines. One can easily find the Mazak spare parts for these laser machines when required.

Cincinnati laser has a touch screen display, easy to use buttons, and a full-sized keyboard. This has prima optics that are very much important to focus on the cuttings by lasers. It can easily operate on Windows Operating System, which makes it simple to use for the operator. This has a camera attached that makes it easy to see the process of cutting.

Laser technology has made many changes in the industries. Using this technology helps to easily cut and engrave materials for the best result and quality. Nozzles are for cutting or engraving the materials based on the programs set up for the process.

Advantages of Laser Technology

  • Highly Accurate
  • Excellence in Cut Quality
  • Speed in High Processing
  • Very small heat-affected zone compared to others
  •  Low application of heat
  • Cutting and marking with the same tools
  • Cuts many materials
  • No contact between material and tool
  • High-pressure laser cutting

Principles of Laser Cutting

  • Rear Mirror
  • Output Mirror
  • Polarizing Mirror
  • Telescope Mirror
  • Beam Bender
  • Cutting Carriage
  • Adaptive Mirror
  • Focusing Mirror
  • Cutting Head
  • Cutting Nozzle

The standard nozzle for the Cincinnati lasers helps in engraving and cutting. There are different sizes of the nozzles according to the requirements of the cuttings and designs.

The nozzle’s correct size is very important for a perfect cutting, e.g., nozzles with large holes are for high-pressure cutting. If the size of the nozzle is a bit large, the cutting gas consumption increases and without affecting the cutting process. If the size of the nozzle is too small, the material cannot part easily.

Importance of Nozzle Distance

The nozzle distance is very important for the cutting processes and is programmed for height control. The nozzle does not touch the material for cleaner cutting.

The distance between the material and the nozzle affects the quality of the cutting. The smaller distance between the nozzle and material gives a perfect cutting quality. There are some restrictions for better cutting:

  1. For safe cutting, the minimum distance is a must.
  2. Minimum distance is approximately 0.025 inches.
  3. The nozzle distance is small or large for hole piercing, which depends on the thickness of the material.

Sizes of Nozzles

  • Short Nozzle with large hole diameter (7mm)

Laser cutting and engraving are done using this size of nozzle and are mainly used for laser acrylic processing. It gives a beautiful flame-polished edge.

  • Short Nozzle with small hole diameter (3mm)

The use of this nozzle is mainly for the cutting of those materials that emit excess smoke, like wood. This has a small opening that blows away smoke and cutting gases.

It is not suitable for engraving dust intensive materials like rubber or stamp plastic. Engraving dust settles at the nozzle’s opening, which blocks it, causing burn holes in the lens.

  • Long Nozzle with small hole diameter (3mm)

This is suitable for the combination with a 2.5-inch lens, useful for the large focal length between the nozzle and the material.

  • Copper Nozzles for laser cutting with compressed air

These copper nozzles are short with a hole diameter of 1.7 mm. As this has an extremely small diameter, the airflow directly targets the kerf, which makes for a clear cut.

These are suitable for cutting thick materials like wood with 5mm or polycarbonates. This attachment comes in 4 different lengths, depending on the lens’s length and focal distance.

End Words

The spare parts are important for handling such laser machines. Mazak spare parts are very important for Cincinnati lasers, as they provide accurate parts that help maintain the machine. Using standard nozzles helps to cut the materials and engrave them with the right technique. Nozzles do not touch the material while cutting for the best quality. The sizes of nozzles affect the cutting quality.

Common Problems and their Solutions in Metal Laser Cutting

When we say laser technology, what comes to our mind is precision, versatile, speed and reliability. As compared to other cutting methods, laser cutting is a much safer method. These are a few of several advantages that laser cutting offers.

Laser cutting is a thermal-based method which uses a focused laser beam to melt a highly targeted area of a material that you want to cut. Its usage is majorly in industrial manufacturing but it is becoming prevalent in other sectors like school and medical. You can apply it to a wide range of materials like wood, metal, iron, leather, plastic, etc. The success of the end-product depends on the machines you use. For instance, machines that use parts from brands like Mazak spare parts or Trumpf replacement parts are reliable enough to cut any materials.

In spite of the latest trends and technology in laser cutting, operators face some common problems while dealing with the laser machine.

Problem: Difficulty in finding the focal point of the laser machine

Generally, laser machines come with an automatic focal point. If you face this problem, there are two methods:

  • Slant Plate Method: You can look for the laser beam at the minimum focus by moving the laser beam horizontally along a slant plate under the vertical axis.
  • Pulse Method: Printing on a plastic sheet will help you check all holes and the smallest one you find is the hole.

Problem: Cutting depth is not sufficient

This can happen due to numerous reasons if;

  • The position of the focal point is incorrect- follow the above mentioned two methods to find the focal point.
  • The laser tube is ageing; we recommend to increase the laser power or replace the laser tube.
  • The laser power supply and/or the output power is too low; adjust the supply and/or power by making it slower

Problem: Burr on the workpiece when cutting

  • If you are unable to find the focal point of the laser machine, that will cause burr. You can manage the focal point by following the steps in the first point.
  • This can also happen if you run the laser cutter for too long. You can solve this by restarting the cutter. Burrs occur if the cutting line is too slow. Try increasing the line.
  • Check the purity of the cutting working gas.
  • Shut down the machine and restart again.

Problem: The cut of the metal remains incomplete

This happens majorly because of three reasons

  • The thickness of the processing plate and the nozzle of the laser doesn’t match: try replacing the nozzle.
  • The speed of laser cutting linear is fast: reduce the linear speed.
  • The nozzle is not able to sense the laser focus position: re-detect the nozzle sensing data.

If you feel that it is time to replace the parts of the machine, you can rely on quality products like Mazak spare parts or Trumpf replacement parts

Problem: There are abnormal sparks while laser cutting

  • Replace the nozzle in the laser head or increase the gas pressure for laser cutting.
  • Check if the joint between the nozzle and the laser head is loose. Immediately stop the cutting and screw the joint tightly.

Problem: There is a small hole deformation during metal cutting

While machining small holes with a high power machine, the laser energy gets concentrated in a small area. This results in deformation of the hole. The solution here is to change the pulse perforation (soft puncture) method to blasting perforation (normal puncture).

Conclusion

We hope those solutions will help you solve some common problems while metal laser cutting. We recommend that before making a purchase do detailed research on the machines and replacement parts. Choose machines that use spare parts from Mazak spare parts or Trumpf replacement parts who have a vigilant team to solve any problem that occurs.

4 Tips Before Purchasing Laser Cutting Machine

Fiber laser is a widely popular laser cutting tool.

Every year, the prices of these machines keep changing, depending on its design types, laser power, brand, parts like mazak spare parts, mitsubishi replacement parts and other aspects.
So, it is obvious to have misconceptions while inquiring and end up with an under-satisfying offer.

Hence, here, we discuss some tips which you can take into consideration while purchasing CNC machines.

1. Don't directly ask the price:

Usually, the sellers analyze the authenticity and intention of the customers before pitching their product. You should not simply walk into the showroom and ask directly "What's the cost of your laser cutting machine.

If you do so, then there are chances that they might not be active or responsive to your inquiries.

Before asking anything, make sure that you are clear in your head and know what you want your machine to do. Discuss those points with the salesperson and make your point clear. This will give them clarity in providing you better services.

Additionally, you can prepare these details in advance. This will give you time to think about which things you want in your CNC machine. And this will also become easy for a salesperson to understand your requirements and provide you the perfect laser machine.

Before going in and asking him, it would be great if you do some research from your end. Understanding the basics of laser machines will help you more while purchasing a machine.

2. Laser cutting machines and manufacturers are not equal:

One common mistake most of the buyers make is assuming that metal laser cutting machines and manufacturers are equal.

But, the truth is, different manufacturers provide different metal laser cutting machines with parts like mazak spare parts, mitsubishi replacement parts. Usually, fiber laser cutting machines vary in brands and core parts such as laser source, laser cutting head, motor, etc. these are the important factors for pricing the machines.

The machine might have an enclosure which prevents laser radiation, double shuttle pallets to save the loading time. There are also sheets and tube integrated laser cutting machines suitable for customers that need to process sheets and tubes.

Hence, the more functions and larger the size, the costlier these machines will be.

Additionally, the laser power of the metal laser cutting machines differ from 500kW-12kW or even more.
Similar to size, higher the laser power, higher the price.

Sometimes, some sellers might give you a high configuration laser to gain more cost margins, some might tell you about some pretty low priced laser machines but not good quality.

Hence, you should check carefully all the quotes. Remember, that different machines have different configurations and a simple comparison between prices will help you to end the choice of metal laser cutting machine.

Additionally, there are different manufacturers that have different levels of experience and provide different service supports. This often affects the schedule of your projects too.

It's necessary to do your research about suppliers and find which companies are good and fast at it. You must be thinking of why researching suppliers is important.

So, let me tell you if the supplier is not good at keeping the count of the spare parts they might keep you waiting for a long time to continue your production.

3. High Laser Power:

Usually, it is said that the higher the power in the laser machine, the better it is. But, it even affects the cost.
The laser cutting machines with high power have high requirements for their components. This makes the whole equipment cost soar. So, if budget is important and thick metal cutting is not your priority then having a low power laser suits well.

4. Don't choose low-cost machines:

While finalizing any deal, the cost is the major factor. You might think to choose the lowest cost machine to save some money. However, the cheaper machines are not always best with the given quotes.

Nowadays, the metal laser cutting machines in the market vary depending on its quality and price. Some might cost very high as they belong to good companies and use quality parts like mazak spare parts, mitsubishi replacement parts while some might cost low. But, you need to make sure that whichever laser machine you choose should serve your purpose.

Final Words:

Laser machines are widely useful and cost efficient yet highly recommended by most of the fabricators. They are here to stay and make working with lasers easy for fabricators. So, now prepare your list before your next laser cutting machine purchase.

An Insight into Laser Engraving Bricks

Bricks are probably the oldest building blocks humans invented. The first bricks date back to 800 BC when Palestinians would dry clay mud in the sun to make simple bricks. Since then, bricks have been an important part of the construction industry.

Brick marking methods have been in use for years. What makes bricks a popular choice for fundraising or donor campaigns is their durability. Though traditional methods like sandblasting and pantographing are still in use, laser engraving is the latest and most promising.

Fanuc

How to Start with Laser Engraving Bricks

The very first requirement for laser engraving bricks is a brick engraving machine. The brick engraving machine you choose should be reliable.

A good engraving machine will help you save time, eliminate additional costs and make long-lasting fundraising bricks.

When you buy a brick engraving machine, you must consider these points in mind.

1. Power

Before choosing a brick engraving laser machine, make sure that it is a CO2 laser. Also, ensure that it is of at least 80-watt power. Though you can engrave bricks with a lower power laser machine, it will take more attempts to get the look you desire.

2. Size

You should choose a bigger size engraving machine with a large bed. This will facilitate the engraving of multiple bricks in one go. And it will escalate productivity.

3. Experience

Ensure that the company you have chosen to buy the laser machine has experience with brick engraving.

4. No Additional Costs

Make sure that your laser machine comes with all the accessories and software you need to start brick-engraving. Minimizing additional costs is what you should focus on.

5. Warranty and Support Ask everything about the warranty period, support and other facilities you’ll get post the purchase. It is better to know everything beforehand rather than facing issues later.

6. Proper Maintenance

Once you buy a laser machine, it is important to maintain it properly. Take care of accessories that wear out. And replace them to reduce losses. Even after the warranty period gets over, never compromise with the quality of spare parts. Always use good quality spare parts FANUC parts, Mazak spare parts, or any other good company’s spare parts.

How Can You Earn Huge Profits with Laser Engraved Bricks?

Earning huge profits by laser engraving bricks is simple. Many different places like hospitals, memorials, zoos, universities, etc. need brick engraving for various purposes. For instance, schools sometimes may require laser engraving for alumni recognition, displaying school pride through engraving a mascot or other custom artwork. Also, schools can make pathways, patios, and gardens, etc. with laser engraved bricks.

Even one or two orders for a walkway or garden can bring in great income in a shorter span. This way, you are sure to earn huge profits with brick engraving technology.

Advantages of Brick Engraving

1.  A Simpler and Faster Process

Brick Engraving with laser is much simpler than traditional brick marking methods of pantographing and sandblasting. All you need to do is create a design of your choice and push start after sending it to the laser. Further, it is possible to engrave multiple bricks simultaneously, thus making it a faster process.

2. Eco-Friendly and More Stable

Unlike sandblasting and pantographing, laser engraving doesn’t require epoxies, chemicals or fillers. Hence, it is eco-friendlier. Further, sandblasting uses fillers to fill the areas that get chipped away during the process. However, these areas under constant sunlight, harsh weather conditions, or acid rain cause bricks to deteriorate. And even if you avoid fillers in sandblasting, moisture will go down deep into the bricks and break them down.

3. Integrity Remains Intact

While some brick areas get chipped away during sandblasting and pantographing, it doesn’t happen during laser engraving. Their structural integrity remains intact. And they are stronger and durable throughout.

4. Low Maintenance

Once set up, laser engraving machines require low maintenance. And good quality spare and replacement parts like Mazak spare parts, Fanuc parts, or spare parts from any other good company are easily available.

Summing Up

Thus, you see that brick engraving is an easy source of huge income and profits. All you need is to select a suitable brick engraving laser machine for your job. And maintain it with proper measures and good quality spare parts like FANUC parts and Mazak spare parts, etc.
