Everything You Need To Know About Fiber Laser Cutting Machine

The fiber laser machines are useful for a wide range of applications. Fiber laser uses different wavelengths to cut metal and non-metals. They can be used for cutting, welding, marking, texturing, cleaning, drilling, etc.

Fiber lasers offer speed and accuracy both. A fiber laser will use optical fibers to create a laser beam. The laser beam is transported to the cutting head. The laser is then condensed down to arrow beams and then used to cut metals of various thicknesses.

They are used across a range of infrastructure and manufacturing apps that can enhance strength and efficiency.

Let us discuss laser machines in detail.

How Does a Fiber Laser Cutting Machine Work?

Fiber laser produces a high-power laser beam by using stimulated radiation. The laser diode emits light, which is sent to the fiber optic cable to amplify. The powerful laser when hits the surface of the material, then the light is absorbed and converted to heat which will melt the surface. The airflow parallel to the laser beam blows away molten material. This allows the workpiece to cut the sheet. The first contact of the laser with the sheet will pierce the sheet.

The laser machine uses computerized digital control that allows the cutting of data from the CAD. They control either the surface of the material or the laser produces a specific pattern. The machine has dual interchangeable platforms, and it is easy to load and unload materials. Thus, this ensures the speedy cutting process with accuracy. The parts that require replacement should be changed immediately. You can use bystronic spare parts, amada spare parts, trumpf spare parts, etc.

Materials Compatible With the Fiber Laser

A fiber laser machine is useful in cutting carbon steel, copper, brass, stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, etc. The fiber laser can also cut reflective materials, which other lasers like CO2 laser are unable to do. Fiber lasers have become much more advanced, and they are able to cut more types of metal fabricators. Good quality spare parts like bystronic spare parts, amada spare parts, trumpf spare parts, etc. will also make a difference. Manufacturing, construction, and infrastructure industries use sheet metals a lot, and thus they prefer laser machines. However, laser machines are gaining popularity in the creative world to make art, sculpture, engraving, etc.

How Thick Your Metal Sheet Should Be?

Different fiber laser machines have different cutting capabilities. But mostly all fiber laser cutting machines can cut metals upto 13mm thickness. Whereas the high power laser machines with 10lW power can cut 2mm, aluminum and stainless steel upto 30mm. To receive the best cut in the thicker material the spare parts must also be up to the mark. You can buy bystronic spare parts, amada spare parts, etc. online.

4 Tips to Maximize your Laser Engraving Production

The good thing about laser cutting and engraving is the speed at which they can etch a pattern or carve even an intrinsic design. However, that’s not enough to boost production. Laser operators often need to look for ways to maximize their productivity. Are you, too, looking for ways to use lasers efficiently?

If so, use Trumpf Parts and Bystronic Spare Parts for laser consumables. They are durable and provide better quality than other brands.

The other tips that ensure using laser machine to its highest potential are:

  1. Engrave Multiple Items in One Go

If you want to boost your production, engrave multiple products in one. It reduces the processing time, efforts, and even cost to a certain extent. For instance, you have to engrave plaques or courses with similar designs. So, there you can print multiple at one instead of designing one at a time. It will help you save your time by 37 percent, says a study.

However, the number of items you can design depends on your graphic table size. Therefore, make sure that your paper size of the graphic design program meets the highest table size. By doing so, you can print maximum items at once. You can use a jig to space the items so that they don’t mix up while engraving.

  1. Adjust Resolution

Image resolution is important in engraving. The higher the resolution, the better would be the image. But higher the DPI, the more time it would take to engrave. DPI refers to dots per inch, and higher DPI means the engraving dots will be closer. It would result in a higher detailed image. However, it would take more time.

If you want to engrave in a shorter time, you can go for a low-resolution image. It would save your time by around 33%. You can also offset your resolution with dithering patterns. Dithering patterns are visual dot patterns that you can see in lower DPI. Therefore, to achieve target results adjust resolution and DPI with dithering patterns. You can engrave your design in less time.

  1. Use Color Mapping

Color mapping further helps save time. Let’s say your design consists of three columns with 30 names in each. The laser machine would consider it as a whole instead of separate columns. It would pass through the white space and engrave the names in one color.

So, to avoid this, you can use color mapping. It would enable you to skip the white spaces and assign different colors to columns, along with engraving order. With this process, your laser would consider columns as different and engrave accordingly. It would travel through the white space only when it has to switch to the next column. The color mapping approach can save you 47% more than others.

  1. Pre-Engrave Items

Customization is popular. Many businesses are adopting it to enhance the customer experience. But for your laser engraving business, it can be inefficient. If you have to engrave the same designs repetitively, it can increase the production time, resulting in inefficiency. However, you can curb it by pre-engraving the inventory before single orders come in. For example, you can pre-design a batch of keychains or cutting boards. When an order comes in, you can add a custom quote or saying according to customers and pass it on. With a little change, you can avoid bottlenecks in day-to-day orders. Also, the small change would take less time than engraving the entire design.

What’s More?

Use center engraving to set custom jobs on items. Using a job manager to streamline the laser workflow is also a great idea to boost productivity. In addition to these, make sure to add high-quality branded parts like Trumpf parts and Bystronic spare parts. After all, maintaining consumables is also a trick to increase laser efficiency.

How Laser-cutting Technology Works in the Leather Industry

We have been using leather for years. This material is famous for its ability to retain shape and design in every product. We can easily cut and shape the material because it is light and strong.  This makes it a versatile material and products of leather like shoes, gloves, hats, bags, etc. have immense value in the market. Technology has made it possible to use leather not just for clothing but also for other articles like automobile seats, book bindings, fashion accessories, and furniture.

Earlier traditional technologies like stone knives, bone needles, die press techniques and manual cutting were famous for cutting leather. The value of the product with manual cutting was not determined by its usage but by its design features. The major disadvantage was that these technologies would operate at a slow speed, require manpower and the result was of average quality. Over the years, laser cutting has become a popular technology used to enhance leather’s scope of functionality.

What is Laser-cutting?

Laser cutting is a process that uses a laser to cut different materials from metallic to non-metallic elements. The use of the laser is for both industrial and artistic applications. Laser cutting uses a high-power laser which directs through optics and computer numerical control (CNC) to direct the beam or material. The gas vaporizes the beam which burns and leaves behind a high-quality surface finished edge.

Role of laser-cutting in Leather industry:

The reason why laser technology is popular in the leather industry is because it provides high quality cutting in a short period of time.

Laser-cutting in leather works with the help of two things- laser beam and computer technology. With high-energy, high-power-density carbon-dioxide laser beams you can cut leather speedily and efficiently. Plus, the digital and automatic technologies of the machine enhance the cutting capabilities.

To cut a leather piece, a CO2 laser beam focuses on a small spot. By doing so, the focal point achieves high power density which converts photon energy into heat thus creating holes on the material. Despite the residual heat, the material is not prone to deformation because of the cut seam that hole produces.  Moreover, the size of the lather also remains consistent. Computer graphic designs are generally in use to increase efficiency.

On the other end, C02 laser cutting is popular to engrave leather materials in shoes, bags, and other industries. The cutting speed generally reaches 5-30 mm per second while the engraving speed may reach 600 mm per second.

There are other two important processes of laser-cutting in leather:

Nesting: It is a process of positioning parts that are to be cut in such a way that there is minimum waste. The disadvantage of this process is that it does not assure complete utilization of the material. This process can also be challenging in case of large-scale production. To overcome this challenge, today, the usage of nesting software has increased.

Cutting sequence: the aim of this process is to complete the cutting procedure by finding the shortest path.

Laser parts from manufacturers like Amada Laser Parts and Bystronic Spare Parts provide quality parts of the machine that increases the machine’s ability to engrave the leather.

Following are the leather types suitable for laser cutting:

  • Natural leather- it is unfinished leather used for producing dyed leathers
  • Suede leather- a type of leather with a napped finish, commonly used for jackets, shoes, shirts, purses, furniture, and other items.
  • Synthetic leather- also known as artificial leather, substitute for leather in upholstery, clothing, footwear, and other uses
  •  Alcantara leather- a common synthetic material used in automotive applications

Advantages of laser-cutting:

  • Laser beams allow manufacturers to have clean and sealed edged cuts that reduce chafing of the leather.
  • It requires less power for cutting.
  • Have higher production speed. This helps you finish more products in less time.
  • Production of standard quality products.
  • CIM system laser helps you manufacture identical designs.
  • Laser cutters are precise enough to produce intricate designs as compared to manual cutting.
  • It is contact-free. You will not require manpower for this.

To avail the best benefits, it is necessary to choose a machine that fulfills your requirements. You can do this by online research. Manufacturers like Amada Laser Parts and Bystronic Spare Parts provide quality, long-lasting and efficient products.

Disadvantages of laser-cutting:

  • The natural quality of leather is variant. Due to this laser-cutting needs experimentation to operate the machine successfully.
  • As the laser vaporizes and burns down the material, flames occur. But you can solve this issue by placing the machine in a ventilated area.

Conclusion:

The wide range of features and advantages of laser cutter makes it an attractive tool for designers in the leather industry. If you are looking for laser machines for your enterprise, we recommend looking for reputed brands like Amada Laser Parts and Bystronic Spare Parts.

How to Avoid Top Four Mistakes in Laser Engraving

Learning to perfect the use of design equipment is important in order to avoid the mistakes regardless of your position in your career. It’s important to learn the art of perfection.
From time to time, there are issues that leave designers questioning about where they went wrong or finding the way they can better the skills. This pattern of thinking is in each and every creative field even in laser engraving.
If you know the correct ways, you can avoid small mistakes and are less likely to make them again. So, let’s see the top four mistakes laser engravers make and ways to overcome them:
1. Avoid Burning Fabrics
As a laser engraver, you must understand your fabrics. You need to know what type of laser engraving machines you should use, make sure it has high-quality parts like Amada parts and bystronic spare parts, and how much heat the fabrics can handle. Fabrics such as denim, canvas and leather can withstand high power settings during laser engraving. But, with delicate fabrics, it’s necessary to reset the settings keeping high speed i.e. near 100% and low power at 5% to 10%.
Test these initial settings on some extra materials and if the fabric can withstand it then increase the heat power until you get the output you are looking for. When you work with direct-to-garment engraving, it is necessary to lower the dots per inch at which you engrave. The higher the DPI, the more it removes material. While if you engrave at low DPI it helps to ensure that the laser slightly vaporizes the top layer and doesn’t burn entirely through the fabric. Most fabric engravings are perfect at 150 to 300 DPI.
2. Acrylic Produces White Laser
Two types of acrylics are useful in laser engraving and both have different applications. First, there are cast acrylic sheets. Its objects are of liquid acrylic that it pours into a mold and then you can set them into various shapes and sizes. This type of acrylic is perfect for engraving as it turns a frosty white color making it suitable for awards and plaques. You can cut the fabric with a laser, but it does not give projects flame-polished edges.
Extruded acrylic is the other type of acrylic; it forms into sheets by machines. It is less expensive than cast acrylic because it is made through a high-volume manufacturing technique. However, it reacts differently to the laser engraving machine. This type of acrylic cuts cleanly and smoothly and produces a flame-polished edge. But when you engrave, it does not produce a frosted look, instead provides clear engraving. Hence, as a fabricator, you need to make sure that you are using correct acrylic depending on your requirements.
3. Imperfect Glass Engraving
Usually, when a laser comes in contact with glass, it breaks the surface but does not engrave it deeply or removes the material needed to engrave fully. The breakable glass surface will produce a frosted appearance, but this can be rough and chip depending on the type of glass you use to engrave. Additionally, it also depends on the type of laser machine you use and parts it has like Amada parts and bystronic spare parts
Here, are some of the tips you should follow to produce better, smooth glass:
  • Use low resolution i.e. around 300 DPI which produces better results on the glass as you separate the dots you engrave.
  • Change the amount of black texture in your graphic to 80 percent.
  • If possible apply a thin, wet sheet of newspaper or a paper towel to the engraving area. This will help you with heat dissipation and improve the engraving process. Just make sure that there are no wrinkles in the paper which you apply.
  • Another way to make the heat disappear is to apply a thin coat of liquid dish soap over the area you are engraving using your finger or a paper towel.
  • Lastly, if there are fragments of glass after you engrave, polish the area using a non-scratch scour pad.
4. Wood Engraving
Wood is one of the most laser friendly materials because we can cut and engrave easily. Usually, different woods have different ways of reacting when we engrave them with lasers and produce different results. Lighter woods like cherry or maple can produce a nice contrast where the laser burns away the wood. Whereas, with the denser woods requires more laser power to cut or engrave.
Grain density can change dramatically depending on the type of wood you are using. Cherry, alder, walnut, and maple have fairly small veins of grains in them and oak has medium to large veins.
Final Words:
As a fabricator, it is very easy to make mistakes and suffer loss because of it. But, I am sure after reading how to solve these four mistakes you will come to know what are the things which create these issues and better your skill. Make sure that you know what type of laser engraving machines you should use and if they have the right parts like Amada parts and bystronic spare parts as these things do matter and affect the quality of the outcome.

And after that, they were almost gone. However, with the advancement in the laser industry, laser engraving has been a versatile solution for many industries.

This article talks about the recent re-emergence of vinyl records because of laser engraving technology.

A little throwback to the history

Developed in the mid-1800s, Vinyl records were among the most dominant source of music till the 20th century. In 1990s the small size cassettes and CDs replaced these vinyl records.

The introduction of technology in the entertainment industry made people adopt new emerging things. However, these instruments were able to maintain their worth. With a large number of people still using vinyls to record their music.

With the introduction of engraving technology, these recorders have started coming back in trend.

Numerous artists have started recording music in this format. In fact, according to current reports, vinyl sales are increasing year over year.

Additionally, Sony recently made an announcement that for the first time in 30 years they will be reopening the vinyl plant.

On the other hand, CNBC did a report on vinyl sales that stated that in 2016 total sale numbers for vinyl were 13 million. The highest number ever the company has had since 1991.

How this transformation became possible?

Laser Engraving in Vinyl Record:

In 2016 a company named Rebeat, located in Australia did a patent of the new method i.e. producing vinyl records using laser engraving. Later when they were able to increase their funding, they went on to reintroduce these records in the market.

Rebeat is calling these new records HD vinyl. And according to sources, these new records would have long playtime and better sound quality.

If you are looking to upgrade your laser machines with new parts you can look online for Bystronic spare parts or Prima spare parts for quality results.

Working:

The digital audio data from the device converts into an accurate image and represents it in a 3D inverted surface model for music. Further, it goes for mastering and size evaluation to prevent any unneeded gaps during printing.

It creates 3D images on ceramic plates. Whereas in traditional vinyl pressing, nickel stampers are useful instead of ceramics.

Fanuc

But, they wear out faster compared to other ceramics and produce records that decrease the quality as stamping plates lose details.

In fact, Rebeat claimed that with the help of laser engraving along with ceramic plates, up to 10,000 records production is possible without any loss in quality.

Additionally, they even said that by replacing vinyl pressing with laser engraving they were able to reduce the manufacturing time by 60%.

Pro tip: All HD vinyl produced by Rebeat will be backwards compatible and will be playable on any standard turntable.

Oreo Records and Laser Engraving:

Another big news is from Oreo cookie company. According to reports from Digital Music News, oreo recently partnered with the company called Dimension Plus to create Oreos capable of playing on the special turntable.

The company engraves the grooves on the iconic cookies which in turn produces Oreo’s theme song in different music styles like Jazz, classical, electronic and Chinese pop music.

To upgrade your laser machines with new parts you can look online for Bystronic spare parts or Prima spare parts for quality results.

A few of the major reasons that define the longevity of the records:
  1. Young collectors are having interests in collecting these records as it gives them a retro feel.
  2. The interest of baby boomers who grew up using them.
  3. The audio quality of vinyl records renders the best results. Because they are the closest to the original format.
  4. Additionally, engraved Vinyl records can be an art piece or autographs from their favorite artists.
Final Words:

Sometimes it may seem that technology is overpowering the world of music. However, Vinyl records and laser engraving can be the best example to overrule this type of statement. The collaboration between laser engraving and vinyl records is thriving in the industry and creates the need as it gives them the freedom of reliving those good old days again with a touch of technology.

When it comes to laser cut metal, we always refer to steel plates, signage or some other pieces and mechanical parts. But, it is important to acknowledge that you can even apply laser cutting on a panel for a stairway railing, a bouquet of flowers, wine glasses or even a stapler used in heart surgery.

The point here is that laser parts can be a solution for the oddball problems as well. Be it a car industry, disc gold curses to rental companies - almost all type of businesses can get benefits from a properly done laser cutting project.

So, if you are looking to cut something from metal, or checking the possibilities, here are the 8 examples of how laser parts can help for honed finishing :

Bag Tags in Golf

Weird but feasible. Outdoor exposure can damage the quality of the golf bag in a short time. Hence, golf enthusiasts can create their own custom bags using a metal sheet and laser. You can etch the course's logo and can cut-out the numbers which would work like a metal tag as well as an identifier.

Stair Railing

In order to give that authentic or real touch while designing the house, you can add an element of originality with the laser parts. Using Bystronic spare parts you can craft innovative designs and add them to the custom staircase. This way, it would give you a feel of elegance and a focal point in the normal room.

Charger Plates for Fancy Dining

Organizing an event is equally difficult in this cut-throat competitive industry. Perhaps, you can add a charm of uniqueness to your events with the charger plates. It could be a beautiful and inexpensive addition which would add a charm to any table setting. You can tie it together as a theme or can pump up the panache.

As this plate would sit beneath the plate your guests will be eating from, you can make it from any material including acrylic, plastic, wood, etc.. But we would recommend you to cut it from shiny, durable metal as it would transform that whole look of table settings.

With a Stapler

In some cases, experts from the medical industry would need a new heart surgery device with a metal durable staplers which also needs to be safe because it comes in direct contact with the human body during surgery. In such a tricky situation, using Mazak spare parts in laser cutting could help cut a prototype from various metals.

For Branding

Whenever there comes a holiday season or any occasion, it is the best time to send a token of appreciation to your customers. But if you do that with an ordinary holiday card, probably with your photos or signatures won't create a long-lasting impression. It would end up in a trash bin after a few days. Instead of that, you could use the Bystronic spare parts in laser cutting wisely to create a unique gift.

You can design a company logo as a whole on brass or other metal. As a result, it would be a great addition of value to customers' holiday gifts with an added benefit of increased branding. Plus, it would save you big bucks on the overall cost. It saves cost, time, and leaves a lasting effect on the customer.

Glass Designs
